Peter Morrison - Executive Director
Peter founded PBI in 1998 after a multifaceted career in conservation science. He has experience in conservation biology and ecology with additional expertise in GIS, botany, conservation planning and management. He worked for Sierra Biodiversity Institute, the Wilderness Society, the US Forest Service, Oregon State University, the Sierra Club and as a consultant. Peter's work has aided the protection of several million acres and numerous species in the western hemisphere.

Kim Romain-Bondi - Wildlife Biologist
Kim has worked with PBI as a wildlife biologist for 7 years and has focused her career on threatened and endangered species and citizen science education. Kim has worked as a biologist for Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, Idaho Fish and Game, US Forest Service, and currently also owns and operates the North Cascades Basecamp and Ecology Center with her family. Her passion has been working with endangered species recovery programs including red wolves, grizzly bears, pygmy rabbits and western gray squirrels. Kim has a MS degree in Wildlife Ecology.

Steve Bondi - Wildlife Biologist
Steve currently runs the North Cascades Basecamp and Ecology Center, focusing his teaching on bird identification and natural history. He was previously the Stewardship Program Director of the Methow Conservancy, the local land trust, where he worked on projects such as riparian habitat restoration, beaver relocation, and forest stewardship. Steve received his MS in Environmental Science/Regional Planning, and honed his love of ecology and the outdoors while working in Yellowstone National Park, Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument, and Teton Valley, Idaho.

Kristina Bartowitz - Conservation Biologist
Kristina Bartowitz recently finished her M.S. in Conservation Biology and Sustainable Development at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she studied effects of invasive plants on small mammals. She joined PBI as an intern in 2015 and has stayed on to help with our work studying climate change, wildfires and impacts on ecosystems, and with the Conservation Science and Leadership Course. She has worked with a variety of different organisms and ecosystems including prairies, orchids, birds, small mammals, and amphibians in Wisconsin, Costa Rica, and Panama.

Craig Olson, PhD - Wildland Scientist
Craig has worked extensively in wildlife and forest management, and natural resource inventory and monitoring design and implementation, for state and federal agencies. Craig received his PhD in wildland resource science/biometrics from UC Berkeley and his MS in Forest Fire Management from the University of Washington. He recently shared his expertise as a Peace Corps volunteer in Mexico, helping with forest and fire management in a program focused on climate change and biodiversity.

Hans Smith - Fisheries Habitat Biologist
Hans is a biologist with the Yakama Nation, managing salmon recovery projects in the Methow Valley. He has a Bachelor's degree from the College of Forest Resources, Univ. of Washington, and is an excellent botanist and biologist, with advanced skills in GIS, web map programming, and project management. Hans worked as a conservation scientist and project manager for PBI for many years.

David Stokes, PhD - Environmental Science Professor
David is an associate professor in Environmental Science at the University of Washington, Bothell. David received his PhD in zoology from the University of Washington and is an expert in conservation planning, conservation biology, wildlife movement, invasive species and human preferences in conservation. Dave is an excellent teacher and is highly respected by his students.

George Wooten - Botanist
George is a multi-faceted botanist with expertise in many areas of conservation science. George has worked for PBI since 2000 on projects including botanical surveys, ecological assessments and wildfire behavior analysis. He also works with Conservation Northwest and is an adjunct instructor for Wenatchee Valley College where he teaches Botany and Ethnobotany.
